Sardonyx with parallel stripes is mainly referring to the mineral chalcedony with parallel bands of silicon dioxide called agate. Sardonyx with parallel stripes is also known as “banded agate,” and it can come in a variety of colors, including red and white, blue and white, black and white, or with wide or narrow stripes. The primary component of banded agate is silicon dioxide, which is semi-transparent or opaque. After volcanic eruptions, the natural silicon dioxide liquid in the earth enters volcanic lava pores or other rock fractures. These liquids deposit layer upon layer in volcanic rock fissures, eventually forming banded agate.

Sardonyx has been found all over the world, including Yemen, Uruguay, Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, the Czech Republic, Germany, India, Indonesia, Madagascar, Latin America, the United Kingdom, and various states in the United States.
